Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, little town that is a bit sleepy. Many people unfamiliar with the word frequently think that it's a separate island somewhere to the west of Montreal However, in reality the West Island is home to every aspect of the City of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time in the city wasn't long. Brugel was raised on Courtice just outside Oshawa in Ontario. The first goal she had was to become a dancer, however a rapid growth rate meant that she literally outgrew her dance partners. In an article in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6'1 inch. After I became too big for my male partners I stopped. A lot of former dancers go on into acting. In Brugel's case it was the nudge of an instructor in drama at high school that encouraged her to go in that direction. Her teacher invited her to try out for roles in a school production. The teacher who suggested she go after a role in the annual school production. Following her award of the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she attended York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. Since then, Brugel's been involved in more than 60 shows, big and small. One of the most memorable was when she landed the role of Rita in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian part of the cast for the season 1 of the series, and only appeared on occasion.
